"Dacron 70" Nefryt & Albin Vega Yacht Meeting

Dacron ’70 – Nefryt & Albin Vega Yacht Meeting

17th - 19th June 2016, Academic Yacht Club Gdańsk Marina – Górki Zachodnie

Academic Yacht Club Gdańsk cordially invites to the the first in the world Nefryt and Albin Vega Yacht Meeting - Dacron '70. These yachts of a proven design were also the precursors of mass production with the then modern material – fiberglass reinforced polyester. More than forty years of the history of these units is a great example of extraordinary seaworthiness in storm and still at seas far and near.

Nefryt is a Polish design established in the early 70s thanks to the knowledge and persistent efforts of Polish constructors Wacław Liskiewicz and Edmund Rejewski. Small unit, modestly equipped but brave and allowing to experience true freedom, learning to respect only the elements of wind and water. It was used primarily as a training boat, being a must-have equipment for the most of marine clubs in Poland. Nowadays the yacht brings back memories of many generations of sailors, who began their sea careers aboard Nefryt in cruises close by and farther away. Nefryt Club (part of AYC Gdańsk) brings together many yacht owners and supporters.

Albin Vega is a Swedish design of Per Brohall, created in the late 60s having in mind cruises for sailing families 2 + 2. The use of a low-cost and production time shortening material, quality and usability of the yacht made it one of the most popular in the history of sailing - nearly 4000 units were manufactured. Currently the boat is referred to as a cult and has many fan clubs in Scandinavia, Great Britain and USA. Seaworthy design let the yacht perform astonishingly during long and heavy expeditions that finished successfully (e.g. arctic expedition of Jarle Andhoy, single-handed circumnavigation of the Americas of Matt Rutherford).

Dacron '70 is the name referring to the period in which new technologies led to the popularization of sailing to the extent previously impossible. To this day, for more than four decades, brave units equipped with sails made of dacron, continuously provide a lot of fun, they learn how to reconcile gusts of wind and wave whims. These yachts without exaggeration can be called a cult today. And that’s why we are to celebrate these proven designs and their owners.

Dacron '70 Meeting is organized by Academic Yacht Club Gdańsk, which has always been a breeding ground for the brave men of the sea. The long tradition and history of the club dates back to pre-World War II times. The history of the AYC Gdansk is glorious, sometimes cheerful, but always fascinating.

Dacron '70 Meeting is a celebration of yachts where you will meet the famous sailors of AYC Gdańsk, you will learn the history of the design and construction of yachts in the days of the communist regime in Poland.
